About Ahvant Foundation

The word “Ahvant” draws from the idea of calling forth — an invocation for transformation. Founded in 2023, the Ahvant Foundation for Net Zero Transformation emerged from a conviction that India's built environment holds the key to the country's climate ambitions.

India is at a pivotal moment. With over 70% of its 2040 building stock yet to be built, the decisions made today about how buildings are designed, constructed, and operated will define the country's energy trajectory for decades. The built environment currently accounts for roughly 35% of India's electricity consumption and is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

We recognized that bridging the gap between national climate policy and on-the-ground building practices required a dedicated, independent institution. One that could work at every level — from shaping national codes like the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) to helping individual projects integrate energy-efficient technologies.

Today, the Foundation operates through four specialized centres, each addressing a critical dimension of the net-zero transition: education and knowledge exchange (C-NEXT), demand flexibility (C-FLEX), sustainable cooling (C-LECT), and data analytics for informed decision-making (C-DASH).

Our approach is rooted in evidence. We believe that rigorous data, transparent analysis, and open collaboration are the foundations of meaningful change. We work with government agencies, international organizations, industry stakeholders, and research institutions to translate complex sustainability challenges into actionable, scalable solutions.

As India strives to meet its net-zero commitments, the Ahvant Foundation serves as a bridge — connecting policy with practice, research with implementation, and ambition with measurable outcomes.
